Ryland Grace had seen hell and come out the other side willing to let everything burn to the ground around him.
Simon looked at an angry, hurting man, and chose to pour his energy into fixing rather than harming.
Ryland Grace looked at a kind, gentle man that understood his demons and held him anyway and let himself be cared for.

Summary
After figuring out the true extent of Simon's mutations, Ryland quickly realizes that the reason that Simon had been under the weather recently is due to him going without blood for too long. But with the Eridians still hard at work synthesising blood for him to drink, it looks like Simon's just going to have to take straight from the source for the time being.
