Summary
Things were getting worse. It was three years since Yi had met Eigong and was healed. He had alienated himself from his own family, and moved to Kunlun to better serve Eigong's needs for testing Tianhuo.
Heng had been sending correspondences to Yi to communicate across the distance. One per week, with time for Yi to send back. For the past month, he had failed to reply. He could not bear to. Not now.
There had to be a cure. And Yi had to be fine.

Summary
Freeing the Hollow Knight from a mad god’s clutches is one thing; freeing them from their own self-imposed chains is entirely another. Particularly when they understand their rescue as no rescue at all, but simply another god taking those chains in hand.
Ghost did not request any of that.
Hornet, having spent the past few centuries desperately believing that all her siblings died in their eggshells, has learned the truth just in time to struggle with how to help a sibling who firmly believes that their own existence as a living thing is the most heinous of crimes.
Oro is not remotely pleased at having been pulled from his perfectly fine hut to help, and is most definitely not unusually invested here, thank you. No attachment whatsoever to someone who, despite being half-dead, still tries to make of themself a living shield. None at all.
(He’s also a bad liar.)
Friends and allies can only get you so far when someone’s greatest battle is against their own mind, and many things in this crumbling ruin of a kingdom are inclined to interfere in the matter. Not all that is dead is willing to stay dead, and the past is not content to remain in the past.
Nor are these the only Void-kin still alive.Series

Bookmarker's Notes
A beautiful story. It is singularly focused on Hollow after an edited Dream No More ending where Ghost collected a (fairly large) team of explorers from their adventures within Hallownest, and more importantly Hollow didn't die after the Radiance was killed. The amount of OCs does not sidetrack the story at all, and in fact the writing is very cohesive, consistent, and focused on the main subject of the story, that is, healing Hollow. Furthermore, the story is written very elegantly, and there is not a lot of filler. There is a lot of content in just these 32 (make that 34 and counting) chapters, and yet most of it adds to the story meaningfully. It does not waste time at the beginning using excessive exposition, it picks up right where Dream No More would leave off, with Hollow smackdab in the middle of the Black Egg. Admittedly, it could use a bit of time establishing the supporting cast and premise, but if you have read the fic it is, in part, inspired upon, or continue reading deeper in, you will surely come to understand what is going on.
From there, nearly every event, major and minor, hinges upon Hollow and their condition. This works in its favor as well, it's not distracted by alternate plot threads, it does not split off to focus on a single protagonist adventuring in Pharloom or something, even when characters leave from Hollow's side, the fic returns to them quickly, and the character returns as well, after the right amount of time passes. Whenever any drama or horror or conflict occurs, Hollow is usually the centerpiece or the one most affected, and the story quickly becomes fixing the problem so Hollow can return to healing from their weakened condition. And ultimately much of the time that would be spent characterizing the OCs does so not in a vacuum, but in relation to Hollow. Nearly everything in the story follows the crucial maxims and rules of storytelling that keep a story from being horribly executed.
The story itself is good, very well thought-out and deep. BSplendens knows how to keep the reader invested in the amazing story, using emotional buildup, cathartic moments, and emotional torque to make sure you feel for the characters, most primarily Hollow, but Ghost, Hornet, Oro, and a few others too. The masterful usage of these subtle techniques keep you invested, and give the story it's impact. Nothing is introduced that does not serve a purpose, and the purpose is always to follow through on the story's basic promise: that things will get better. In spite of the dark topics and graphic depictions, this is a rather optimistic story. As it wanes on, Hollow, slowly but surely, takes their life into their own hands. And this story is fully set on showing the entire process in detail.
Speaking of detail, the story is written with tremendous maturity and knowledge, there are not any medical scenes which sound unrealistic (unless you take them out of the context of the story, that is, it is focused on an immortal vessel, after all) much of the psychological wounds are handled realistically, the rules of the story are always consistent and very believable, and much of the story's topics and events have depth, and are handled with great care. BSplendens clearly put in a lot of effort learning as much as he could about the medical procedures used, injuries, psychological complications, and such. The only things that are unrealistic are some small qualms about physics that come with Hollow Knight itself, like how a bug could take a hot spring bath without inhaling water. As such, the story is not held back by unrealistic expectations, and everything that happens can be used to their greatest effect. The story is always internally consistent.
Yes, this story is filled with gore, graphic scenes of torture, and other mature things, (always read the tags) but everything is handled with maturity as well. This is not gore porn. Hollow's body is horrifyingly screwed up from his past, and that is acknowledged for how horrible it is in story. The fic treats itself as seriously as it can, as it should, because it hinges on a lot of mature topics better treated with respect.
Ultimately, there are fewer fanfics I can recommend more than Drained of Light. It is one of those few written works I have seen where the author's proficiency and care permeates through it's every word. Drained Of Light is better than nearly every story I have seen in my life, even the stories of my favorite video games (bug fables, warframe, horizon zero dawn, mass effect) don't compare to how masterfully well done this is.

Mimosa, a self-proclaimed "aspiring pop sensation", applies for Project Armstrong: an experimental cybernetic surgery to help fix her spine and get herself in perfect condition to pursue her dreams of being a star. When her old, crappy music player gets lodged in her chest during surgery, however, she's labeled a "defect" and hunted down to be "recalled". Moving and fighting to the beat of her music, she teams up with a crew of disgruntled, bitter ex-employees to take down the Heads of Vandelay Technologies and stop their devious plans!
A retelling of the main story of Hi Fi Rush, but with the protagonists and antagonists swapping roles!

Summary
The Void had been still for an amount of time unthinkable, the being able to unite it fallen so long ago.
Its stillness breaks when a small shade rejects its call, refuses to merge with it and lay to rest, instead pushing its resolve onto the sea.
Fix it. Save them, it demands, and something answers.
Something stirs deep within; something meant to be forgotten awakens; something powerful beyond anything Hallownest has known in its entire existence heeds the call, throwing the vessel and itself both into a time long lost.
Mere weeks before the Sealing, a wounded vessel staggers out of the Temple.

Bookmarker's Notes
In My Dreams You're Gone is one of my most favorite Hollow Knight fics. Sure, the underlying premise of a time-travel fix-it might be a little overdone, but In My Dreams You're Gone does it right. First off, instead of fixing things and leaving it at that, Dreams makes the journey to fix what went wrong cause worse problems. The stakes rise as Ghost tries to succeed this time in saving Hollow and killing the Radiance. Furthemore, Dreams is really dark. It captures the moody gothic tone and carries some visceral horror and sadness. By the climax, the characters have all been broken in several different ways, and a part of what keeps you coming back is wanting to know how the characters get out of the mess in the end. It's not easy.
Seriously, this fic has it all. Doom Spirals, an apocalypse, a suicide, nightmares, Hollow struggling with being a person, the fork struggling with loving the vessels properly, a Ghost who has been tortured by the Radiance, and a lot of spilled ichor. It hurts to read, because of the sheer pain the characters are going through. Ironically, quite a bit of it is their fault. Also, I will say this is the only Hollow Knight fic I've seen which gives the Hollow Knight some closure with the Pale King. The Hollow Knight gets to tell the pale King just how they feel about their mistreatment, and how they feel for PK. It's very touching, especially since most fics don't play into that well enough.
In my Dreams You"re Gone is sad and dark. But it has hope at the end of it's tunnel. It has comfort with the hurt, and that keeps it going.
In My Dreams You're Gone is one of my most favorite Hollow Knight fics.
