“There was a girl one?” Liam asks, trying to keep her hand still as she watches Theo carefully apply the paint to her fingers.
“She was wearing a skirt.” Theo responds, like it matters. Like the skirt is what made her a woman — like the skirt is what will make Liam a woman.
“I don’t assume gender based on clothing, Theo.”
“Liam,” Theo looks up as he presses the brush against the rim of the polish bottle again with a deadpan stare, “they were three evil scientists from the 1700’s, there wasn’t a whole lot of gender exploration back then.”
