Sophie glances at him before bowing again and quickly leaving the room, closing the door behind her with barely a sound.
He watches her go with a pang of regret before returning his full attention to his sister. "How was the--" Benedict almost spits the next word out: "--examination?"
Eloise merely presses her fist to her mouth.
"The physician has seen what he needs to see, yes? Whatever needs confirming has been confirmed?" he asks, filling the air with questions the longer his sister refuses to say anything. "And the child is fine? And Fran--"

The younger woman follows the advice and exhales quietly, before smiling largely again and continuing, "And you and Mr. Bridgerton look so handsome together! Oh, I cannot imagine you marrying anyone better. He is so kind and gentle and attentive, is he not? I don't doubt he'll make a wonderful husband for you, and I'm so glad he's not marrying Rosamund, of all people! She doesn't at all deserve--"
And then Posy covers her mouth and looks around them. "I apologize, Sophie. I didn't mean to be so rude."
"You are not," Sophie comforts her. She looks behind Posy - half-expecting Rosamund and, god forbid, Araminta, to be behind her. "You came alone?"
Here, Posy looks slightly bashful. "Not exactly," she replies. "Although I did not come with Mama or Rosamund, if that would ease your mind!"
