When Buck jumps off a bridge to save a little girl during a call he winds up with a month off work and a slew of people coming to the Diaz house to take care of him and force him to rest. He's not going to admit how nice it is.
He would also like to point out- for the record- that he technically jumped out of a bus. It just so happened to be hanging halfway off a bridge at the time.

"Am I lost?" You ask in a long-forgotten voice.
"You were, when you were out there." He looks out the window where the snow piles up and the wind howls. "Normally, we know when someone is searching for a way back. But you were a mystery, you must have something special about you."
"I have this." You reach under the blankets and into your pockets. You extract the bear you had forgotten was there. Your good luck charm. "And I have you."
"Me?" He repeats, his head tilted to one side. "Who am I?"
"You are Edwin, of course." You laugh slightly, because this must be a game you'd forgotten you play. "You are Edwin and you are with Charles, because you could never be apart."
"Of course I am," he smiles, and kisses the top of your head. Your eyes flutter closed again. "Thank you for finding me."

Summary
It wasn’t that Buck hated his birthday.
At least, that was what he told himself.
He just never had much of a reason to celebrate. Instead, it became another day for him to drag himself through and hope he made it to the other side unscathed. With his luck, it was always easier said than done.
Somehow, every time his birthday rolled around, the universe decided he needed a slap to the face. A reality check. He never fought back and, after a while, came to accept that his birthday would never be anything other than a painful memory.
So, no, he didn’t hate his birthday.
His birthday hated him.

The annoyance drops from a boil to a simmer. He reaches for the covers, holding up a corner in an invitation for a temporary truce. “I’m still mad at you.”
“I know,” Eddie offers, crossing the room and slipping beneath the sheets. “I’m mad at you, too.”
