Izuku is expecting the call when it comes. There have been two false alarms, so far; a call from a telemarketer, selling something with a spiel that Izuku hadn’t taken the time to really listen to; he’d hung up after a stuttered goodbye and cautiously set the phone down. The second time it sounded, about an hour later, heralded a series of texts from Uraraka-- both times had Izuku jumping at the sound of his phone buzzing, launching himself across the room to snatch it from where it was resting on the coffee-table in the living room. Both times, his mother had poked her head out of the kitchen to eye him worriedly; both times, he had given her an uneven smile and shaken his head.
“Not him,” he’d mouthed, and she had nodded, and disappeared back into the kitchen.
