Summary
Finney Blake and Robin Arellano are opposites in almost every way; except for the fact both their siblings died on the same day 3 years ago.
Ernesto Arellano was accused of murdering his girlfriend Gwen Blake, then committing suicide on January 4th, 2022. The deaths plaguing the town of Little Wellington caused the Arellanos to be shunned, and Ernesto to be the town’s target for years.
Finney Blake, senior in high school, has a goal: find out what really happened that night while getting the credits he needs to graduate.
He knew Ernesto, but more importantly he knew his sister. He knows Gwen would never stay with a guy capable of that.
He has to be right; if he isn’t, it means he failed as a brother. After 2 years of grief over his sister and a well-timed school project, he re-opens the case with a vengeance.When Finney convinces Ernesto's older brother Robin to help, they quickly realize things are much darker than they thought. They must face challenges, danger wrapping tightly around them, and figure out a way to unravel themselves from this mess; not only alive, but together.

Robin never actually gets sick, even if he's faked it more than once. Usually when he misses, it's due to a nightmare and memories of the past that have never gone away. When Robin doesn't show up for school and Ernesto insists he's sick, Finney doesn't believe it and skips to check for himself.

The first time this happened, Finney screamed. He hit the wall until his knuckles bled, until Gwen rushed in, until even Dad recognized the screams.
Now, he just grabs his lighter from his pocket and sparks it with shaky fingers, holding the blunt up. He takes another slow drag, letting the weed fill his lungs, the empty space where Robin’s lips had been.
“Fuck,” he whispers to his bedroom, and he drops his head between his knees.

“The car,” Finney’s words falter slightly—he rests his forehead against the scratched interior of the phone box, watches the way his breath mists up the glass as though those two movements collectively might erase just how humiliating it is to ask for help like this.
It doesn’t work. Finney holds the phone tighter. “It just stopped, like, completely. I can’t make it start, Rob, I don’t know what the fuck’s goin’ on but—”
A soft chuckle drifts from the other end of the line; slow and warm, syrupy and sweet in a way that makes Finney want to punch the shit out of him, but also makes something tighten and swirl low in his chest. Robin is infuriating and he’s also really hot, and Finney swears to God that in moments like these ones? He fucking hates Robin Arellano.
Or; Finney's car breaks down, and Robin fixes it.
