"Okay, but..." Shane watches with fascination as Marley's cheeks go pink. His eyes dart towards Shane, and away again. "You talked about Jane, like. A lot. Got pretty fucking graphic with it. You telling me all that was about Hollander?"
Shane straightens. "What."
"Why are you surprised?" Ilya asks, raising an eyebrow at him. "You knew this, I told you this."
"I thought you were just running your mouth," Shane says. Making it up because you knew it turned me on, he doesn't say. He glances back at Marley, who is now openly staring at him with a look on his face that Shane has no idea how to interpret. "What - what did he tell you?"

Shane turns to face him, confused. “What?”
“Hm, I think no?” Ilya tilts his head, eyes dragging up and down Shane’s body shamelessly. “I would remember that pretty face.”
It’s such a cheesy line that Shane has to laugh, even as his stomach swoops at the way Ilya’s looking at him. “What are you doing?”
“What do you think?” Ilya leans in a little closer, voice playful, “I see a beautiful stranger all alone at the bar, I want to approach him. I think maybe he might like my company.”

Telling people about Ilya is an even bigger deal, somehow, because even those few who are fine with Shane being gay have a difficult time with the Rozanov of it all. Shane doesn’t like dwelling on how much it bothers him because… well, it’s inevitable, isn’t it? He’s always gonna have to defend his decision to be with his boyfriend, like Ilya’s not the kindest, strongest, most beautiful person Shane knows. Like he’s not the love of Shane’s life.

Bruce doesn’t know what’s wrong with his child, but he’s pretty sure kids aren’t meant to work like this.
From the day he had looked up into the tops of the circus tent and saw a frightened mirror image of a boy who had just experienced the worst day of his life, Bruce had instantly gone into emergency mode.
The Gotham PD had wanted to pass the boy off into the care of the circus. The circus had mumbled underneath their breaths about superstitions, about not having a boy like that with them, about not being able to handle something like Dick. So GCPD, not knowing what to do, had started talking about one of the handful of overburdened boy homes that handles a majority of Gotham’s unlucky orphans.
All the while, the camera lights flash bright and loud, wanting to know everything.
Bruce couldn’t let that happen.
Not then, not ever again.
