“I knew his face three years dead beneath a domino. I knew it as he carved a chunk of flesh from his own scalp and cursed my name…” His fingertips drift to a spot two inches behind his ear. Is that uneven texture the sign of a years-old scar, or just a tangle of hair?

He leans an elbow on the tattoo bench and finally notices that the blond is wearing a whole-ass turtleneck and gloves in summer. This guy must really want the damage covered up if he can’t even bear to look at it. It’s all the more noticeable when Vash falters and then takes a self-conscious step back—as if Nick will rip the clothes from his body himself if Vash doesn’t comply fast enough.
