His imagined Richie would want to fuck him. Would want to take that piece of Eddie’s innocence that his mother tried harshly and deeply to keep safe. Richie would fuck into him, and he wouldn’t be very gentle, because he, more than anyone else knew and believed that Eddie wasn’t fragile or needing of careful care. He’d know that he could take it. Charles had braced himself for the pain. He knew that when Erik would push the coin through Shaw's head that he would inadvertently push it into his. He knew that he would feel the slow, torturous drag of metal through his skin, his brain tissue, his mind. He had even prepared for the heartbreak and the betrayal, because once Erik had put on Shaw's helmet, Charles's heart had already shattered to pieces.
But when Charles's mind was fractured by the coin, he hadn't been prepared to lose a part of himself he could not bear to live without.
Because without a mind he had no telepathy, and without telepathy, Charles was...
Human.
Or: Charles loses his telepathy after Cuba, and all the pain that follows.
