Summary
It took a great amount of effort and sacrifice to pave your path to freedom from your old organization of monster hunters, and you would do anything to keep it. Anything. You already have done awful things to many people just to be able to escape from that old life of yours.
Underlying guilt from your past actions constantly eats away at your soul—or what was left of it—and you've got a myriad of mental illnesses and instincts that never quite went away. You've killed hundreds—if not thousands—of humans and beasts alike all for the sake of the place you once thought of as a home.
In the present, you try your hardest to live a quiet life and avoid attention. But one day, a mysterious circus makes its way into the town that had become your home. Instantly noticing the chill and the tension brought along with the strange circus, you're suspicious that there's more to the place.
Is this circus some sort of front for something sinister? Something similar to your old association? Is it just your paranoia for anything that reminded you of your old life? Or maybe...it may represent a part of your past that you could never outrun.

Your father always told you about monsters when you were small. Terrible and godless creatures that hid in the shadows and fissures beyond human society. Beasts sent from hottest hell to test mankind with their words and their deception.
They are not of this world, you’d hear him say. They use dark and wicked means to prey on the weaknesses of men, women, children, it didn’t matter. They crudely mimic human faces, hide amongst neighbors. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light, he’d recite.

An AU in which the old circus Ringmaster had a child, one who was kept in the dark about the true nature of the performances ever since they began. But when your curiosity boils over and fuels you to sneak into the hidden room just inside the main show tent that you were forbidden to enter, you begin to question everything you've ever known, everything you've ever been taught.
What makes a monster? What makes a sinner and what makes a saint? Most importantly, what makes a person?
