Sprawled panting on the floor of the bathroom, blood dripping down his face from the bird’s pecking and visions of falling down into the sea of stars playing out dizzily behind his eyes, he decided that perhaps he was not, after all, particularly the sort of person who might find adventures. It was a shame, but at least he had managed to satisfy his raging curiosity before deciding this so that he wasn’t tormented by the tantalising glimpse of the gold thing forever out of reach below.

Summary
Maester Aemon still has his sight when Jon Snow arrives at Castle Black to swear his vows. Targaryen’s might have typically had pale hair and purple eyes, but Maester Aemon would recognise his family anywhere.
His vows have been tested three times before. This is his fourth and final test and, after nearly eighty years of being a bystander at the Wall whilst his family destroyed themselves, Aemon decides that enough is enough. He’s been a man of the Nights Watch for most of his life; but he’s been a Targaryen all his life.
He might be old and trapped at the Wall, but he grew up in Kings Landing and no one knows the Game of Thrones like he does.

Summary
All Aegon has ever known is his mother's fear and rage, his father's cold indifference, and his grandfather's blind ambition. Unable to handle eternally falling short of their exceptions, or to face the threat of war on the horizon, he buries himself in his vices in order to cope, and waits for the world to be set aflame by the King's passing.
Until Helaena gives him some advice that changes the course of his life, and the future: try and revive his old bond with his nephew, Jacaerys. If Aegon can convince him that he is no threat, then maybe Rhaenyra and the rest of the realm will believe it too.
And if that means sneaking out to Dragonstone on Sunfyre? Learning more of his eldest sister and her family then he has ever before known? Realizing how kind and brave, smart and maybe even beautiful Jace is? And if those things together, shift the course of the Dance of Dragons, and House Targaryen forever?
