My Prince—if he wakes—the lad you knew will not return to you. The damage to the brain is irreversible, we gathered that he will not speak as he did and he will not think as he did. I have seen many men and women after injuries like this. Should he open his eyes, he will be—he will be as a sweet babe, childlike if the shards had not taken away his wits as well. He will need to be cared for, fed and clothed for the rest of his days just as an infant would.”
After an injury leaves Aerion Targaryen far different than before and entirely reliant on his family, Maekar Targaryen does his best to take care of his son.

Summary
In the aftermath of Baelor's death, the Targaryen family splinters. All Maekar wants is to hold the remnants of his family close, but even he knows that Aerion cannot stay here, not with Baelor's ghost still wandering the halls.
Dunk has had enough of princes for a lifetime, but Baelor's memory will not let him turn away from the wreckage before him. When Maekar begs him to take Aegon on as his squire, he accepts, and when Maekar begs him to look after Aerion, Dunk cannot turn him away. He is determined to fulfill his duty as Baelor's man, and to do it well, Aerion be damned.
Aerion's life crumbles down around his shoulders in the span of a single afternoon. The Maesters say his leg may never fully heal, his own father cannot look him in the eye, and his family wishes he had died in his uncle's stead. When he finds himself exiled to Lys with only the brother who hates him and the knight who maimed him for company, he is certain he's being sent off to die.
Fortunately, the gods have other plans.

"What are you saying?" Maekar demanded. "You are telling me my son is already dead."
"I am offering a choice, Prince Maekar," the maester stammered, pulling a scalpel out of his satchel.
The blade caught the flickering candlelight, wickedly sharp. "A horrific choice. We can wait for him to wake. But, it is a fatal gamble. If the fire returns, he will die screaming."
The maester slowly lowered it, pointing towards the lower half of Aerion's spine.
"Or… I take my blade, and I intentionally sever the spinal cord. I cut the nerves dead."
Aerion receives the blow of the mace, and Maekar has to choose between killing the body or killing the spirit. Whatever the outcome is, Dunk is charged to mend the broken dragon. Inspired by Me Before You.

Said detective was currently bleeding from his scalp and various other orifices as he lay curled on the ground, the punk who’d gotten the drop on them circling him like some kind of hyena.

The 16-year-old King Baldwin of Jerusalem returns from his victory at Montgisard sick and exhausted, and his older sister decides to cheer him up with a strange card game she discovered while he was gone. There is also alcohol. Either way, they don't get very far, and in the end Baldwin falls asleep on Sibylla's lap while she braids his hair. So basically this is pointless crack!fluff. There is way too much angst as well. I suck at being funny (which was the actual point of this) and I don't even speak English. So Ska, you have been warned.

Still, Heahmund plays Ivar's games, abides by Ivar's schedule because the mad viking is the only thing keeping him alive. When Ivar breaks from his standard routine with Heahmund, the Bishop knows something is wrong.
