Ruby immediately stiffens, straightening to her full height. She doesn’t turn around, one of her hands pressing against the wall in front of her, too forceful to be unintentional.
“Yeah?” She responds, her tone attempting a mimicry of cheerful nonchalance.
“Ruby. You don’t have to-”
“I’m fine.” Ruby cuts her off. “I-I’m fine. Okay? You don’t need to… do that.”

Summary
Blake came to Beacon to get away from her past, but in doing so she has to keep two big secrets. Firstly, that she is a Faunus, an ex-member of the White Fang.
Secondly, that she wasn't always a woman, that she'll never quite be like the rest of them.
(“Well, Blake?” He asks, hand outstretched, as she looks at Him, wide eyed and hopeful. “I can give you what you want. You want to fight for the faunus, and you want to be a woman, like you told me you are. I can give you both.”)
