Bucky can hear him breathing. It seems shallow. Suddenly, talking is not enough. He can’t say anything, can’t think beyond this feeling, this raging depression that swallows up his whole consciousness. He needs something else, anything else, to occupy his mind before he goes insane with guilt.
This is the reason, this is the only reason, that he leans in and kisses Sam like his life depends on it.
