How to customize the first letters and first lines in your works and in your siteskins by Goddess_of_the_arena
Fandoms: AO3 help - Fandom
14 Apr 2026

Summary
This little guide will focus on the ::first-letter and ::first-line pseudo elements, suggested to me by user PeterLinderman in a comment. I experimented quite a bit on them and found out how to apply them in a lot of ways, both for workskins and siteskins.
CHAPTER 1: how to use the ::first-letter pseudo element in the whole work.
CHAPTER 2: using the ::first-line pesudo element in the whole work.
CHAPTER 3:using a different first-letter and first-line style for each chapter.
CHAPTER 4: how to have a first letter or first line in a matching text style with the line divider or blockquote.
CHAPTER 5: applying the codes to the work title, username, chapter title, summary and notes.
CHAPTER 6 (new): how to make the first letter/first line of each paragraph in a different style using the div command and the nth-child element.
CHAPTER 7 (formerly chapter 6): how to use the ::first-letter and ::first-line in a siteskin and even change the style of the work you're reading through your siteskin.Series

I decided to start a new reference guide to compile my miscellaneous bits and pieces of information. These are just some random topics that I’ve put together as quick references mostly for myself, so there’s no rhyme or reason to how the chapters are laid out.

Summary
When John Irving was steeling himself for another dreadful weekend in the Swiss Alps, he only thought he'd have to deal with integrating George's new boyfriend into their strange group. Nothing could have prepared him to have the same new boyfriend's ex-boyfriend crashing the party and turning his whole life around.
When Cornelius Hickey decided to crash Billy's new fake life so he could get his boyfriend back, he never expected he'd have to learn how to ski or, even worse, care about another self-centred prat.Written for Terror Reverse Bang 2023.

Summary
Francis blinked a few more times, and the James in the mirror blinked back. His mind began shouting something at him, but Francis was still too befuddled from sleep to heed its cries. He lifted a hand to his cheek. The image in the mirror did the same.
Francis pinched himself on the cheek, hoping to wake up from this very, very strange dream. In the mirror, James’ large hand pinched his cheek.
Francis screamed. They say that to really know a man, you should walk a mile in his shoes.
James and Francis aren't sure this is what they meant.- Language:

"Charlie Safehouse" Floorplan - Revised and Improved by StarWatcher
Fandoms: The Old Guard (Movie 2020)
18 Aug 2021
Tags
Summary
My best interpretation of the floorplan of the "Charlie Safehouse" -- because I spent my first dozen or so viewings frustrated that I couldn't figure out where the action was happening in relation to previous actions, and how the rooms all fit together. (Yes, sometimes I'm dense.)
NOTE: The white can be glaring. I've put a buff-colored version below the explanations, if that's easier on your eyes. Added: my new computer shows it as a much brighter yellow than I thought, so it may not be "buff" to you. But I still think it could be easier on the eyes than the white version.

Meta: Linguistic Analysis of the Main Characters in The Old Guard by wingsdocx
Fandoms: The Old Guard (Movie 2020)
06 Jun 2021
Tags
Summary
This is an analysis of the speech patterns of the main characters in The Old Guard. I’ve focused on syntax, although I’ve also looked at pragmatics and semantics, as well as sociolinguistics to a smaller extent. For each of the characters I’ve talked about contraction usage, colloquialisms, phrases, verb and verb tense usage, ellipses, sentence composition, adjective and adverb frequency, discourse markers and fillers, profanity, vocabulary(ish), and questions.
