Summary

But Eleven never knew that love was a feeling as well. That love was gut wrenching and honey sweet and all consuming.
She did not know love could be between two girls...OR: When Hop is injured from the explosion of the Russian machine, he spends a lot of his time in hospital. Time in which Max is asked to keep an eye on Jane. Navigating their own demons, the two begin to trust each other fully, and finally, realize that they might just have feelings for one another...

Summary
Jane 'El' Hopper, a bit of a misfit, arrives at Hawkins High after being forced to move to that remote town for her father’s job. Max glides on a skateboard, hiding her own scars behind an armor of sarcasm and rebellion.
However, she hasn't been anywhere near experiencing true happiness. That is, until life crosses her path with El, and they discover that true freedom isn't about running away, but about finding someone who truly sees you. Will this connection be the sanctuary they both need, or will the weight of their worlds end up snapping the thread that binds them?

When Steve assigns Max and Will to work in the new Scoops Ahoy ice cream truck, Max resigns herself to a terrible summer—at least until she meets El, a new girl in town who looks strangely familiar.

"Welcome to Scoops To Go, Scoops Ahoy's mobile adventure," Will recites. He and Max flipped a coin this morning and he lost, so he has to say it every time. "What can we scoop for you today?"
The boy lets go of the girl's hand and taps his chin with his finger. The girl latches onto his arm. Max wonders if she's under some kind of curse where she has to be touching him at all times. Blink twice if you're cursed, she thinks. The girl does not blink twice. "Hmm," says the boy, in a pantomine of deep thought that Max finds extremely grating. "For me, a double scoop of chocolate in a cup, and for the lady, one scoop of strawberry, one scoop of vanilla. Vanilla on the bottom, sprinkles on top, in a waffle cone.”

”He doesn’t see you.” Max continues, speaking the words right into Jane’s ear. “He doesn’t see you for who you are. He doesn’t even know how to look at you.” Her thumb starts rubbing back and forth on the back of her neck. “You deserve someone who sees you. Really sees you.”
Jane lifts her head just enough to look Max in the eye, her expression raw and beautiful. “I don’t know who that someone is if it’s not Mike.” She confesses, her lips barely moving as she mumbles the words.
Max holds back the words that she desperately wants to say. Me. I’m that someone. I see you. Really see you.

Max is tired of seeing Jane and Mike together. She’s tired of how shitty he treats her. And most importantly, she’s tired of not having Jane all to herself.
She could treat her so much better, in more ways than one.

"When we were together, I didn't really like kissing Mike that much," Jane admits, with the sort of nonchalance one exhibits when discussing the weather. The flippant tone gives Max a ridiculous amount of emotional whiplash, as usual. "I guess it was...okay, but I didn't really...feel anything."
"Pause," Max turns to look at Jane as if she's grown a second head. She hasn't, but the sentiment is so genuinely baffling that she can't help it. "You didn't like kissing Mike?"
