    Not many people see the gentleness in his little brother, too thrown by the cold of his gaze and the scarcity of his words. He thinks it's why Wangji always prefers the youngest of their disciples, who reads one another from the way their bodies move, as Wei Ying had also done ever since he had come into their lives. Lan Xichen watches, heart threatening to spill over from all the warmth it now contains, watches as Wangji pats Wei Ying's cheeks ever so gently and smiles.

    "Good," Wangji says softly, almost a croon, and Lan Xichen can feel how the words loosens Wei Ying's limbs inside his embrace, softens all the doubt and fears that the boy has always worn on his shoulders like a cloak, "Wei Ying is so good."

     

    The Twin Jades of Lan are many things for other people, but for Wei Wuxian, they are just his Lan Laoshi and his Xichen-ge.

    “I want to watch the sun rise.” Ben muttered, “It reminds me that even as the dark sets in, the light will come back around eventually. It always does. It has become hard to remember that recently.”

    The answer left Jaster speechless.

    Ben sounded wounded– hurt in a way which would not heal with time alone. He looked like a tired Verd, a battle-weary warrior. Jaster had seen the look before. Many Verde wore it. The glint of deeply rooted pain sparked in Ben’s eyes too.

    Instead of asking more, Jaster turned his head to watch the sunrise along with Ben.

    It was peaceful.

    Wei Wuxian was supposed to start university.

    Instead, he wakes up inside a poorly written historical romance novel as the villain destined for disgrace.

    In the original story, the proud noble Wei Wuxian loses his childhood fiance, the feared Grand Commander Lan Wangji, to a fragile illegitimate son of the emperor, Mo Xuanyu and falls into jealousy, scandal, and ruin. Knowing exactly how badly things end, Wei Ying decides on one simple survival strategy:
    -Stay out of the plot.
    -Avoid the male lead.
    -Survive long enough to live peacefully.

    We all know that's not how it ends.
