“Mm. No. It’s about “effective scientific communication.” Apparently there has been a bit of a jargon issue between departments.”
“As in technical jargon?”
“Yes. One of the newer engineers on the team called Dr. Eisen a “condescending prick” during a particularly heated discussion yesterday. She apparently moved to physically attack him and had to be restrained by some of the other scientists on her team.”
“Ava Eisen? Hematologist Ava Eisen? The one who does taxidermy for fun? Is the engineer still alive?”
“The doctors are not sure,” she says gravely.
Grace almost laughs out loud. An actual, honest–to–god Stratt joke! Is that all it took? People seriously need to get attacked more often on this ship.
“Can you,” she continues, the words appearing to physically pain her as they leave her mouth, “teach an informal workshop about the role of empathy in science?”A Bloodymary on the Vat AU!

Warmth presses against his back. A hand neatly catches his pencil mid-air and twirls it away, then circles his wrist loosely. Another hand tugs on his hair gently but firmly, and Simon, caught off guard, lets it crane his neck backwards without protest.
"Si-mon," Grace sing-songs, staring down at him fondly. He presses a kiss to the bridge of his nose. "You have been in here for thirteen fucking ho-urs."
