“Ahh, so this is about expectations?” Clark huffed a small, incredulous laugh. He had started to pace slowly in the space between them, frustration evident in his posture.
“I’d expect Brucie Wayne to be upstairs with his date by now, not arguing about ‘mission critical rest’ with me.” Clark took a deep breath. He noticed that Clark did little things like that, taking in air he didn’t need, staying behind to argue with Bruce when anyone else would have left.

He had gone to Dabi again the next night, and when Dabi opened the door of his bedroom, he was leaning against the frame with a practiced casualness.

Dabi chuckled, a sound that rumbled low in his chest and made something in Hawks melt.
'Sure thing, birdie,' Dabi said, and the reins slipped from Hawks’ grasp."
