Erik knows very well who he is and what he is for. If Bast thought placing him here would humble or punish him, They do not know him as well as They think. Erik may wear the body of a slaver, but his mind and his choices are his, as they always have been.
He lived by the sword and died by it; he sees no reason to change the bedrock of his personal ethics the second time around.

RoyEd Week 2025, day 4: Xerxian AU (also technically Royalty AU from day 3)
Roy and his team are delegates in Xerxes, a place steeped in myth and rumour. The most prevalent of those rumours being that the King's twin sons are strictly off limits. Even to be caught alone with one of them is enough to guarantee probably having to marry them to preserve their purity and honour. So, naturally, Roy's never wanted to tap anyone more than he wants to tap Prince Edward.

Summary
Where the loss of ignorance is more valuable than the knowledge gained, and Edward figures out the source of alchemy a lot sooner than before.
