That is, until he dies and comes back with two strings.

Being sent to the Rito in the dead of winter is a punishment. Link is ostensibly relieving the longtime Hylian military attaché, so this could be construed a promotion—but for the timing.
Another birthday has come and gone, and still he has not presented. And even though everyone expects him to be appointed the Princess’s knight, one thing is for sure—the King will never select anyone but an alpha. And he certainly won’t trust his only child with someone who hasn’t even presented yet. Maybe it would be different if Link had the sword that seals the darkness, but he doesn’t.

Summary
Betrayed by his right-hand man, Geshu Lin, the King of Beasts is taken by the sea, bringing the lives of his enemies down with him into his watery grave. To his bewilderment, he washes up on the shores of Jinzhou, clear across the ocean.
Geshu Lin wakes to hands on his body, the sense of a figure crouched over him. Lashing out, he seizes the offender by the throat, claws pricking their jugular in a deadly threat. “Who dares lay hand on ben zuo,” he snarls, ears pinned back into his hair.
He barely gets a word out and the person has already reacted with commendable swiftness, a blade of wind at Geshu Lin’s neck, drawn so fast he doesn’t see it form. Compassionate golden eyes gaze down on him from a pretty face, a banner of teal draped over the man’s shoulder. But what snares Geshu Lin’s attention are the two majestic horns rising from the man’s crown.

Summary
Gravely injured in battle, Jiyan is forced into his smaller dragon form to conserve his spiritual energy. He crash lands on Mount Firmament and is saved by a cultivator who infuriatingly believes him to be an overgrown lizard.
“You’re pretty big for a lizard,” Geshu Lin had commented when the dragon woke. The little thing had gotten so offended. It was hilarious.
The second time he called it ‘lizard’, the dragon had wriggled out of his arms and emphatically scratched out its name on the wooden table with its claw, ‘Jiyan’ followed by ‘dragon’, underlined twice.
“Sure, sure. You’re a dragon,” Geshu Lin says in a placating tone, feigning disbelief just to rile Jiyan more. Jiyan glares at Geshu Lin and snaps at him with his tiny teeth. The intimidation value of the gesture is approximately -100 points.
Chinese Folklore & Mythology AU with Xianxia/Cultivation Elements. Jiyan is a dragon yao who can shapeshift but primarily (normally) takes a humanoid form with dragon horns/tail. He spends about half this fic in his huggable-size dragon form for above reasons ;D
