One second Ryland sat beside the fire, breathing crying beneath the stars. The next Simon shoved into him hard enough that both of them crashed backward into the sand. Ryland made a startled sound as the blanket twisted beneath them. Sand scattered. The firelight jumped gold across Ryland’s shocked face.
Simon didn’t know what he was doing.
He had never done this before.
Not really. Simon just suddenly could not survive the distance between them anymore.
So he closed it.

He pictured Simon behind him pressed all along his back, hot and heavy and breathing like he was barely holding himself together. Simon’s hand over his mouth. Grace wanted it so fucking bad. He wanted Simon wound past thinking, past all that restraint. Wanted Simon’s teeth at his neck and Simon’s hand low on his stomach, holding him still while Grace fell apart against him. He wanted Simon making those broken growling sounds into his skin like Grace was prey, or food, or home, or some fucked-up fourth thing Grace didn’t have a word for.
Grace’s knees bent; he was barely standing.
He bit down on his lip to keep quiet and pushed his fingers deeper.
A low breath came from in front of him.
“Grace.”
His eyes snapped open.
Shit.

“Lie to me,” Simon breathed out. “Tell me you want me. Tell me you want to— want to fuck me.” Once he started talking he couldn't stop, lost in Grace's eyes, grasping his hand like it was the last thing preventing him from drowning.
“Tell me you love me,” he whispered, tilting his chin up just a touch, closer to a kiss that could never happen. So close and so far away.
“You want me to lie?” Grace slid his hand up, cupping Simon's cheek and firmly held him in place. Simon wasn't even planning on resisting and looking away. He accepted his fate the moment he opened his mouth. He had to hear it so he could try to move on.
“Then I will fucking lie, Simon.” Grace forced his head up. His lips hovered just breath away.
“I don't want you. I don't want to fuck you. And could never love you.”

It nearly came as a surprise to be confronted with a new Eridian term, but Grace’s brain short-circuited upon hearing these unknown chords. Hardly able to put any sound to his voice, he uttered, “Need word, Rock.”
“Meant to be together forever,” Rocky explained.
Grace took a very shaky breath. “Soulmates,” he defined. “You think we’re soulmates.”
“Rocky no think,” he said, tapping one foot against the bunk to give strength to his words. “Rocky know.”
