Mr. Seon, the story’s reserved math teacher with rolled sleeves, a monotone voice, and a habit of tapping chalk against the board, bears an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Ga Woo-su, Eui-ju’s real-life math teacher. What began as harmless inspiration slowly takes on a life of its own, and before long, readers are convinced the character must be based on someone real.
When the school discovers the novel and traces it back to her, Eui-ju’s world collapses overnight.
