Summary
Thomas had been under the impression that Juliet talking in her sleep on the stakeout had been a one-off event. A humorous event (at least for him), but a one-off nonetheless. No matter how much he wanted it to actually mean something, he simply assumed it was brought on by the stress of returning from Kenya, breaking up with Ethan, and resolving her mess with MI-6. It didn’t take long after they’d finally started dating, however, to discover that Juliet’s sleep talking was more common than either of them realized.

Summary
After a case, Thomas suggests that Juliet teach him something she's good at and she proposes chess. She teaches him fundamentals and finds he's a quick learner... very quick, which impresses her but she still tests him. Thomas realizes how sacred chess really is to her, partly due to Richard. And now, chess becomes a symbol of something more and why teaching him matters so much.
