They reached the staircase. She turned to face him, one hand on the banister. Looked at him properly. Took a breath.
"Would you go with me?"
"To the library?"
Mon Dieu, this man.
"Non." She smiled, and it was real, and she let it be real. "To the Ball."
She watched him process it. Not the glazed stumbling she was used to - just genuine thought, turning the question over the way he'd turn over an enchantment, checking the structure.
"I am asking you on a date," she clarified, because with Heph, clarity was kindness.
Then, because the vulnerability of that sentence was more than she'd planned to show, she added: "It would be nice to have some arm candy for once, non?"
He didn't laugh. Didn't joke back. Just looked at her with those steady eyes.
"I'll think about it."

Original inspired from a Reddit post asking what would happen if Harry took a Dementor to the Yule Ball. It has since become a story that makes some changes to the main story, and how things become. A mild alternate universe setting.
