    Things are tough after the battle at Mount Othrys. It's especially difficult since the old praetor is dead and has been replaced by Jason Grace.

    Jason never wanted to be praetor. Especially not now. He doesn't know how to handle what happened. He watched his first friend in the legion die. It feels like it was his fault.

    Reyna doesn't know what to do. She feels like the world just collapsed. Her former colleague is dead and she couldn't do anything about it. It feels like the spear was in her chest all along.

    Neither of them know how to juggle their grief along with the responsibilities of being praetor.

    “No. You don’t get to do that.” Nico slammed a hand down on the papers. “You don’t get to shut yourself off. No one except Annabeth has talked to you in weeks, and that’s only to discuss temple plans.” Nico stepped closer into Jason’s space, forcing Jason to look at him.

    Nico looked angry. His mouth flattened into a line and his eyes boring holes into Jason’s soul.

    It hurt to look at.

    Jason scanned the two newcomers with critical eyes. 

    Hazel Levesque was who she said she was. A daughter of Pluto and brother of Nico Di Angelo. 

    Nico Di Angelo, although he told the truth about being Hazel’s brother and the Ambassador of Pluto, there was something about the way the boy’s tongue rolled the word “Pluto” and how his eyes darted to the ground for a split second that left Jason with the knowledge that Nico seemed to be lying about something. He got the feeling that the name “Pluto” was foreign to the ambassador’s tongue.

    Jason Grace did not expect to wake from being dead, fully dead, no resurrection potion, no godly miracle, death, total. He maybe expected to open his eyes to find that he was a translucent version of himself, staring down the retreating back of the impatient Thanatos and the solemn face of an incoming Hermes. He had always thought that was probably how the after life started: death walking away, and your one way only chauffeur coming to pick you up.

    After his death at the hands of Caligula, the Fates decide that Jason isn't quite done. Instead of the Underworld, Jason is sent to a different universe-one where the gods died a long time ago, and Ancient Greek monsters are a new, unstoppable threat. This new universe also has a city protected by a colony of bats.
