Carina.
Maya had been in plenty of fires in her time but she had never found herself thinking about someone when a situation turned ugly. She could see Carina’s face as clear as day - her deep brown eyes, the slope of her nose, the waves in her hair. She could hear her voice above the creaking of the building, her laughter rising higher than the smoke. The sombre thought of never seeing her beautiful wife again was enough to sober her mind completely.
