He could think without getting interrupted, or not screech out replies in order to be heard. He could compliment Ryuji until his ears turned pink without the consequence of the flustered denials turning him away.
The silence was rewarding.
Birds chirping outside, you could hear the hum of the elevator down the hall now. Akira could listen for the pad of feet on hardwood to signal the closeness of his partner.
