Getting over one's doomed romantic feelings for Phoenix Wright was a simple task: give the man polite distance, focus on one's career, and contemplate a Phoenix Wright-less version of the future where one was somehow happy.
Notice that these steps did not include pushing a shopping cart alongside Phoenix Wright, trading flowers with Phoenix Wright's young daughter, or going to Phoenix Wright's home to celebrate Phoenix Wright's stupid, endlessly endearing made-up holiday.
Miles did this to himself. He deserved it.
(Or: Phoenix & Trucy celebrate "Discount Candy Day": the day after Easter, when all the chocolate bunnies are on sale. Edgeworth is regretfully dragged along.)

Summary
If nothing else - and of course there is more, always so much more - he truly enjoyed arguing a case against Wright once again. He managed to find joy in prosecuting a long time ago, but nothing really reminds him of why he enjoys it so much as when that man stands across from him with that cocky grin. It only makes sense, of course - his current passion for his job is derived from that man's influence on his life, so naturally facing off against him only reminds him of why he loves his career.
And why he loves other things, if he is honest with himself. Which he's not - maybe after another flute of champagne.

“And Gumshoe says that Iris won’t be transferred until the end of the week, so I can go see her tomorrow,” Phoenix goes on. “He and Maggey are apparently thinking of taking a trip out to Vegas, too, once all the loose ends from this get tied up.”
Miles hears how this conversation is going, and smiles easily. There’s a certain pleasure in talking with Phoenix about other people’s problems.
“Is that what I am, then?” he asks, a little teasing in the dim bronze light, “Your last loose end?”

Phoenix harbours no illusions that getting his badge back is going to be an easy task, even if the hardest part of clearing his name is technically over. He's fully aware that his reinstatement is going to be a bit more complicated than just passing the bar and is going to be more of a case of:
Step 1: Save money to retake bar exam
Step 2: Study frantically to pass said bar exam
Step 3: Pass bar exam
Step 4: Hope and pray that he'll somehow be able to still pull in clients after his reputation got burned to the ground
Step 5: Haircut
Step 6: New suit
Step 7: Finally, finally confess his passionate love for Edgeworth that has been eating him up inside for the past 25 years
Step 8: ???? Lawyer???Thankfully he has a pretty solid support network of people willing to help him out. And if Edgeworth has anything to say about it, they'll probably be able to cut out a few of those steps along the way.
Which is why Phoenix promises himself one thing. If he passes the bar again, he is absolutely going to kiss the Chief Prosecutor square on the lips. Whatever happens after that, they'll just have to wait and see.

If there is one thing that Phoenix Wright is not particularly known for being, it's neat. Much to the consternation of literally everyone in his life, clutter just seems to accumulate around him no matter what he does. Pearls, Trucy, and Apollo have all, in turn, attempted to keep his office clean and yet no amount of effort they put in ever seems to make any real difference. Athena never even tried, she knows better.
And it seems, finally, that the state of the Wright Anything Agency has gotten so bad that it has attracted the Chief Prosecutor of Los Angeles’s attention.
“This is a working hazard,” Edgeworth says stiffly, hands on his hips. Phoenix only grins at him, because annoying his old friend is probably his favorite hobby.

The obvious answer is to ignore it - no one else is around, winter ended a couple weeks ago, there is no reason to indulge the tradition.
And yet, when Phoenix turns his gaze back onto his oldest friend, that idle thought wondering about how soft his lips are rears its ugly head.

“You’re in love with me,” Phoenix accuses, index finger pointing and arm outstretched. Pink colors Miles’ high cheekbones. Perhaps there was a better way he could have phrased that, but Phoenix had just been working on his instincts. And his instinct with new, life altering information is, as always, to point, shout, and make a fool of himself.
Miles, however, does not follow the script. He does not look like the villains on the witness stand, finally trapped. There is no ‘Graaagh!’ or ‘Ngoooh!’ There isn’t even a ‘Gurgk…’
Instead, Miles is as placid as ever. “Yes,” he says, drawing out the 'e'. He has a tone of voice that implies that this is an obvious statement. “You know this, Phoenix,” he adds.
A.K.A They're stupid, but they finally manage to get together, and then they get together.
