Everyone studied at their own pace.
She was just more committed to it than most, it wasn’t like she was-
“Cheating?” Mako’s voice rose up from the crowd. “Oh come off it, you’re being completely ridiculous.”
“But it’s true,” a voice that Ami recognized as Umino said. “I found a cheat sheet inside her desk! That’s how she’s always getting those grades, she’s a dirty rotten cheater that’s how!”
Mumbles of agreement and glares were directed her way. One particularly mean voice had this to say: “I bet she just shoves her head inside books all of the time just so she can look smarter than everyone else!”
Tears pricked at the corner of her vision and she desperately wiped them away.
“Oh look everyone, she’s crying! Probably from guilt!” Umino said with a nasty grin that looked completely wrong on his face, and Ami knew something was up. All of the same, it still hurt when he led the boys and some of the girls of the class into a chant of: “Cheater! Cheater! Cheater!”
