Summary
After years of distance, Claire ends up back in Detroit and living under Hank Anderson’s roof for what’s supposed to be a temporary arrangement.
It’s awkward from the start.
Hank still drinks terrible coffee, buries himself in work, and has no idea how to talk to his daughter without sounding defensive or exhausted. Claire hasn’t called him “Dad” in years, and somewhere between old grief, missed birthdays, and too many things left unsaid, neither of them really knows how to be family anymore.
Then there’s Connor.
Connor, who notices everything. Connor, who apologises with flowers after one badly timed question. Connor, who insists he isn’t capable of romantic attachment while somehow making things infinitely worse.
As weeks pass, the arrangement starts feeling less temporary than any of them expected. Late-night dinners become routine, Connor stops knocking before coming inside, and somewhere between sarcasm, grief, and accidental tenderness, the house slowly begins to feel alive again.
Unfortunately for Hank, it also becomes painfully obvious that his emotionally confused android partner and emotionally repressed daughter are becoming a problem.
