Summary
Flames lick the crumbling ruins of the monastery. They dance lightly over the stone and blacken the colourful bunting. There is so much heat radiating from the wreckage Abby feels she could be standing next to the sun. The fire, so agile in its consumption, seems utterly divorced from the roaring, crashing noise that permeates the boiling air.
People are running, yelling. People she knows, has known forever, scramble from the interior of their holy temple as it collapses. They scream in pain, clutching broken limbs and brandishing smoking, blistering skin.
All this seems far away, compared to the wingclaps above her. They thump in the air like heartbeats. Abby looks up.
Fire comes down.

It’s a heady feeling. She thinks he would ruin her, if she were power-hungry, because he makes her feel deliciously powerful in a way she’s sure would be maddeningly addictive if she were so easy to corrupt.
She gently places her hands on his thighs, and he shudders beneath her.
Zelda has slept with Link a few times, and he always takes care of her very well. Now it's her turn to take care of him.

“We never discussed ground rules,” Zelda said matter-of-factly. “And we really should have.”
Link didn’t say anything, waiting for her to continue.
“Obviously, no one can know it’s a ruse,” Zelda said. “If anyone finds out, my father will call off his blessing, and both of us will be back to square one.”
Link nodded.
Zelda suddenly felt too warm, and she decided to shuffle over to her desk, which was a good distance from Link, and dig around for a piece of paper and a quill. “It’ll be good for us to write it out,” she said, more for herself than for Link, who sat on the other side of her desk expectantly.
Why did he look like he was waiting to get marching orders? Like he might have been almost eager for it?
She focused on writing out the first rule. “Rule number one, no one can know.” She penned the words carefully. “We have to look genuinely head over heels for each other.”
