There’s a slight twitch to Wyll’s expression, as if he wants to say something but refrains with a soft snort, “You needn’t thank me, but I will accept it. I don’t exactly have a habit of letting my friends careen to their deaths if I can help it, you know.”
Astarion raises a brow, “Friends, are we?” He says, and what he means to be derisive sounds curious—sounds hesitant and genuine. He would swallow his own tongue, if he could.
Wyll smiles, his thumb brushing over the puncture wounds on his wrist, almost reverently, “I would say so, yes. However unlikely it might have seemed at first.”
Astarion looks away for a long moment, his jaw working as he swallows. He’s never had a friend before, none that he remembers, at least. And how pathetic does that sound?

The cussing isn’t what makes Roberto pay attention: it’s the man’s tone of voice, quiet, intense, alarmed. Very little alarms Nicholas D. Wolfwood, including a veritable hail of gunshots at extremely close range. Roberto had really been hoping he and the rookie would get away from the pair in their backseat before he had to find out what it took to really scare either of those men.
