Twilight has always relied on his own mind to get him through any challenges. He can only trust himself, everyone else is a liability. So when he suffers a huge concussion and loses two years of memories and a lot of his normal brain functions, it's like losing everything. And now, with these lesser capabilities, he has to figure out how he came to have a daughter, and more than that, who the beautiful woman who is caring for him is. Because there's no way she's really his wife, right?

Anya had never been held like this before - like she was precious and important. She felt safe; she felt loved.
But that was dangerous. No one ever wanted to keep Anya.
She pushed him away, furiously wiping away her tears, desperately trying to stop more from falling, and failing.
“Wh-who are you?” she asked.
His sudden devastation ripped through her like a relentless hailstorm. She whimpered at the pain of it. She had never felt an emotional blow like this. It felt like the world was ending.
But he didn’t show it. He absorbed the pain, his face didn’t even twitch. No tears touched his eyes. He didn’t visibly react at all.
She doesn’t remember.

Summary
She hates this. Hates feeling so small, so powerless, so wrong.
It reminds her of that lab. The way his eyes linger on the numbers, calculating, analyzing, assessing. The way their eyes used to search for anomalies, or mistakes, or anything wrong so that she would have to study again and avoid participating in any childish acts.
She grips the hem of her uniform tighter. It’s the same suffocating feeling she had back then when scientists murmured in clipped voices, reviewing results as if she wasn’t even there. As if she were just an experiment.
Her heart hammers against her ribs. She isn’t supposed to remember that. Isn’t supposed to compare this to the past. Because this is different, isn’t it?

Desmond is believed to be assassinated, leaving Operation Strix officially done for. Twilight can't figure out a good way to fake his death, until he suddenly gets an idea. Anya doesn't want her papa to go. She has no idea the sort of reaction her mother would have to finding out Loid wrote a suicide note, she has no idea what that even is. She just wants everybody to stay together.
