The man left his apartment at 7:14 every morning.
Not 7:10. Not 7:20. Seven-fourteen, the way a clock keeps time — without deciding to, without knowing it was being watched. Driver had started noting it the third week. By the fifth, he didn’t need to look at his phone anymore. He just knew. He’d be at his door with his coffee, stepping out to the shared landing for air, and the door at the end of the hall would open.

“I’ll wash your jacket,” Lars says, holding his hand out. The bottom half of Driver’s jacket is dark and stained with blood. (The blood goes all the way around, like it’s not only from Driver’s injury. Lars pretends not to notice.) It’s ripped, next to the zipper, from the knife that was in his stomach. Lars doesn’t think Driver should wear a bloody jacket.
Driver shakes his head, eyeing Lars warily.
Well. That’s okay. Lars doesn’t like when people take his blanket, either.

Lars finds the Driver bleeding in his car on the side of the road. A tentative relationship forms.

Maybe Grace notices his hesitation, because he reaches up to cup his cheek with his hand. His blue eyes — not the buzzing, neon cyan of the advertising signboards scattered around the city, shimmering holographic illusions selling dreams to the damned, but the colour of what K imagines to be the gentle blue of a summer sky: the kind that people whisper used to be the norm, before they choked the air with smog and ash — are kind. His palm is so warm without the usual thin barrier of his medical latex gloves — K can't help the way he leans into his touch, like a sunflower turning its face towards the sun, a stray dog seeking comfort from the first kind hand that feeds it.
It's okay, K,
Grace says soothingly.I'm here. Don't be afraid; take as much from me as you need.
How do you teach a man who has only ever been taken from, how to take?
The answer: slowly. Fortunately, Grace is a dedicated teacher.

Right now I don’t know where he is, and yet I’m trying to find out where he lives and go there. I need to go to him and…stay there. That’s what I want.

Claire chokes. Ryland is standing there in blue PJ pants and an oversized PBS t-shirt. He's rubbing his eyes, which are missing his glasses, which makes it even more obvious how similar they look. When his hand falls away, Six watches him process what is standing at his door. His eyes go from Six, down to Claire, then back up to Six.
He laughs, high and stressed, then closes the door in their face.
OR, Six needs help taking care of Claire after they break free from their respective jails. He decides that his younger brother Ryland Grace is the solution.

I pause, gasping for breath — I'm genuinely sweating. And embarrassed. I wonder if Rocky can hear me losing to a slab of wood.
God, I hope he can't. Please God.
It's stuck behind a few empty crates and some miscellaneous spare lab supplies. A few beakers. A blender, for some reason. An ironing board. Why? Because go to hell, Ryland Grace, that's why. You can't have enough fuel to come back but you can have an ironing board with no iron. Here's two kilos of cement-flavoured coma slurry. Kill yourself.
"I'm being dramatic," I tell myself aloud.
I'm really not. Dying in space is a very dramatic situation.
The ways that Rocky and Grace miss everything all the time, yet watch over each other, always.

Summary
When Rocky wakes up after Adrian, he's relieved they're both alive, but immediately knows that something is off with Grace. He's having trouble breathing, sleeping a lot, and spiking fevers. As much as Grace wants to blame it on lung irritation from the ammonia in Rocky's atmosphere, Rocky knows he's downplaying it, and it's not going to work.
However, before he can actually do anything about it, the ship's power goes out. Taumoeba have gotten into the fuel and eaten all the astrophage, leaving them with no choice but to steal from the beetles.
Which are on the outside of the ship.
Which means two EVAs and a lot of lab work for Grace, all while his condition declines from what's quickly turning into a serious health problem. All Rocky can do is make sure he has what he needs and try to take care of him as best he can from afar, hoping they can get to safety before Grace's health is too fragile to recover. -

Summary
Driver bit the inside of his cheek to keep his face still. Ryland must’ve been terrified. He could see it in his mind, the man in his bright yellow jacket, alone in the rain, backed into a wall by men he didn’t recognize. He knew they didn’t just take Rylands bag. The footprints along his coat, the mud in his hair, the bike helmet bashed inwards, and the way Ryland held his side when he laughed painted a solid enough picture.

It's not jealousy. Adrian is adamant about that. They are actually insisting that it’s not any emotion at all. Not even dislike. They are simply completely uninterested in anything that concerns “the human”.
Rocky believes them. Adrian has always been the level-headed one out of the two of them. They are too logical to be jealous. They acknowledge that Grace and Rocky have a special bond after everything they went through together and also understand that none of that will ever pose a threat to their relationship.
Neither are they heartless or ungrateful. They know that Grace is the only reason that Rocky is back at all, the only reason their star has stopped dying. Adrian has told Rocky again and again that they are grateful and happy and wish the alien no ill will. They even helped with the construction of the biodome.
And yet they have no desire to get to know Grace.

Rocky visits Grace's life support quarters with some exciting news, some time into his recovery on Erid---the biodome habitat has finally been completed.
It takes a step through the airlock and sinks down into rough sand and pebbles. I chirp and hop down after it. Grace has not seen the biodome yet, but neither have I, and in my enthusiasm I dart slightly ahead.
Grace inhales so sharply that I turn to hear him better in a panic. “Grace? Grace, what is wrong? You are hurt?”
My assumption is quickly corrected when, without warning, it bolts.
