Scar is signed onto Desert Duo, replacing Grian’s best friend and only ever F1 teammate, Mumbo. Their first encounter is awkward and Grian can’t help but think of Mumbo.
4 years after Scar first meets Grian their team finally has a winning car, a shot at the WCC and WDC. Grian can practically taste it after their first win and a 1-2 podium.OR
Maybe Grian just hadn’t warmed up to Scar yet, but he didn’t like him as much as he liked Mumbo. It wasn’t like he hated the guy, their personalities didn’t conflict at all, if any. Grian decided he was mourning the loss of his teammate being on his team and to give Scar a chance, after all they were only a little over one and a half years apart in age. Scars smile was very bright, as it reached from one year to the other. The team meeting was fairly uneventful, Grian had been spacing out for the most of it.
After the meeting Scar had approached him cheerfully, exactly how he did everything else.
“Hey!” Scar smiled.

Sylvia and Goofy are getting married, and due to a miscommunication, Goofy thinks that Max’s date to the ceremony is Bradley. Max doesn't want to ruin his father's wedding, so he decides to ask Bradley to just go along with this goof. Problem is, they both still hate each other. Pretending to be in love is so much easier when you aren't enemies.
“You’re telling me that your entire family thinks you and I are in a relationship, and are expecting me to attend these wedding celebrations as your partner?” Brad asks, his eyes wide.

Summary
His hands tremble—no, twitch—where they sit in his lap, fingers rolling and unfurling into fists. Fucking stupid. It’s stupid that he’s crying, not that he even notices until the first tear splashes against his palm. It’s worse that he never stands his ground, never fights, always runs. Fight or flight, a trained response, a learned habit, whatever you want to call it.
Then it comes back. Taurtis kissing some girl, nameless, faceless, between the gates of their schools. It’s burned behind his eyelids like a brand, like a scar, like something he’ll never be able to forget. The memory makes him choke on his own breath.

In which Grian is unfortunately sat beside the captain of the swim team, Scar, in their form. This is, in Grian's mind, the worst thing that could've happened given the timing. He ignores him where he can (Joel's advice) but eventually it becomes more of a chore to avoid him than to just talk. As it would turn out, Scar isn't a bad guy. Not even close.
Somehow, that makes Grian even more upset.
