“I know you’ll handle this well,” his old social worker had said, with a hand on his shoulder that had him tensing up. “You’re a resourceful kid, Tommy. Or, should I say, adult! Happy birthday, by the way.”

Summary
Something sharp presses against the back of his head, at the divot between his skull and spine, and a familiar voice says:
“Hello, Imp. Funny running into you tonight.”
Tommy’s heart drops into the pit of his abdomen.
“Smile,” he chokes out, biting back the man’s real name while in mask. Always best to be cautious, no matter how alone they might assume they are. “I thought you were on a business trip.” He hides the worst of his shaking under genuine curiosity.
“I was,” Dream shrugs, the tip of his ukaku digging harshly against Tommy’s head. He winces, the warm sensation of blood beading and trickling down his spine. It’s hardly more than a prick, but it’s a warning nevertheless, and Tommy stays stock-still, eyes trained forward.
“But I’m back now,” Dream says a bit louder, throwing his voice like a gauntlet. “And you,” he hums nonchalantly, “broke a rule.”

“What the fuck! You can talk!” Tommy shrieked, ripping himself out of Techno’s arms and scrambling away and whipping out his dagger to point it at the monsters in front of him. “Since when can monsters talk?”
“Why are we going over this again? We already went over this. Don’t you remember, Little Muffin?” Wilbur, who stood next to Techno, pouted.
Tommy’s brain glitched again. Last time?
“That was real!” Tommy shrieked again, unconsciously lowering the dagger. "I thought that was a dream!"
Wilbur just laughed at him. Rude. That was just rude. Tommy had his whole world flipped and this monster was just laughing at him.OR: Taking pictures of monsters for a living has its ups and downs, and Tommy isn't sure if this new development was an up or a down.

Mike chose a bad time to take a sip of his coke, and this time he can’t keep himself quiet as he chokes on the drink.
“Seems like Will might not have mentioned his heartthrob status to Mike,” Candace notes as Will pats Mike’s back.
“No,” Mike forces out, his voice hoarse. “He didn’t.”
“I didn’t think it was important!” Will defends. “Besides, they were all girls, so it’s not like I said yes to any of them.”
Mike glares. “You got asked out by four different girls?”
“Will’s the resident heartbreaker of our class,” Charlene tells him. “So many girls had their hopes and dreams shattered when they found out he doesn’t swing that way.”
And with that, another realization settles heavily into the pit of his stomach—Will might not only have been asked out by girls. If he didn’t tell Mike about breaking girls' hearts, he might also have neglected to mention going on dates with guys as well.
or, Mike finals finish before Will's, so he goes to stay with Will at his dorm before they fly back to Hawkins together for the summer. There, Mike learns they've both changed more during their first year of college than he expected.
