Summary
Most of the code I write is code that I can evolve on the fly. My code to delete me out of security footage, for instance, was something I'd built up over months, adjusting it to different proprietary SecSystems as I encountered them. But this was different: my comm and feed protections were what kept me from falling under anyone else's control, and I couldn't afford to have them be anything but perfect, which was why I was here. If I wanted to fix this vulnerability properly, and I did, there were things that I needed to do that I couldn't do without help.

In the aftermath of getting hacked, Murderbot asks ART to help it make sure it can't be hacked the same way again. As it turns out, applying and testing a security patch is a little more challenging than usual when the vulnerable system is, you know, your own brain.

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Humans were screaming, I was sprinting toward the problem, and the sky was unleashing a chill, torrential rain that made me nostalgic for getting hosed off in the security ready room.
It should have been the perfect day.
Well, not for the screaming people trapped in the collapsed building. Their day probably sucked. For me, it was exactly what I needed.
More than anything, I really needed there to be a problem, because if there wasn’t then I was the problem.
