His Cas’s eyes zoned on him immediately upon his return – soft and concerned – a ring buoy pulling him back to shore. He didn’t look quite as happy to see his own doppelganger, but then again, he hadn’t had the best experience with those.
Past Castiel wasn’t paying attention to his future self at all though. He’d caught sight of his Dean and – yeah, okay, maybe Sam hadn’t been exaggerating all that much about the staring thing.
“We ready to get this show on the road?” Future Dean called out loudly, somewhat self-conscious about the face his other self was making.
“Yes,” his Cas nodded after a stuttered second, probably taking in the same scene he was. “But first, I’ll need all of the people from 2006 to hold hands. It makes it easier to address all your memories at the same time.”
Lisa reached for her boyfriend’s hand easily, but Past Dean eyed his Cas a little warily. “Why not?” he said eventually, thrusting his hand out. “Maybe we can skip and braid each other’s hair afterward.”
And Dean couldn’t help but take the last-minute opportunity to mess with himself. “You’re so wrong if you think that’s the gayest shit you get up to,” he smirked, just as future Cas’s hand reached for past Dean’s forehead.
For just a second, there was a startle of recognition in his Mini Me’s eyes as he caught sight of the gold ring on Cas’s hand – an identical match to the one on Dean’s finger – and then it was over, and he, Lisa, and past Castiel were all lying unconscious on the floor.
“We should put these two on the couch,” Cas said, pointing to the two humans. “And put me back outside.”
“And then, we can go home?” Jack asked eagerly, jumping up from his place on the couch. “I’m worried about my aquarium.”
As if Cas wouldn’t feed Jack’s fish while he was away. Still, Dean looped one of his arms around Jack’s shoulders, feeling the same homesickness for the bunker and his bed and his own frickin' year. “Yeah, Kid," he said, catching eyes with first his brother and then his husband. "And then we go home.”

Cas watched Dean disappear up the stairs, then turned back to Bobby. “What does an ‘apple pie life’ entail?”
Bobby shrugged. “It's different for everyone– house in the suburbs, white picket fence, wife and kids, maybe a dog.”
Fence, wife, house, dog…and the apple pie, of course. Pushing aside the wife, they all seemed rather achievable. And if Dean wouldn't get them for himself, well, perhaps Cas could get them for him.Or, Cas greatly misunderstands what an ‘apple pie life’ is. So he buys Dean a dog and learns how to bake.

Cas looked beautiful, and Dean couldn't breathe.
“What’s wrong?” Cas asked.
The engine idled, and Dean could hear it taunting him. How did it take him so long?
“Can I ask you a weird question without you judging me or storming off or anything like that?”
Cas cocked his head to the side, frowning. “Of course, Dean.”
Dean took a deep breath, steeling himself. Why was it so much easier to tell Cas that he was planning to chuck himself into the ocean, or say yes to Michael, than this? “How long have we been…dating?”Or, a post-finale fix-it where Dean and Cas start dating before Dean actually realizes he's in love with Cas.

That's what Sam says to Dean before he sacrifices himself to stop the Apocalypse. But when the dust settles and Sam is still being tortured in Hell, the last thing Dean wants is to drive off into the sunset with Lisa.
So, he procrastinates making good on that promise-- he fixes Baby and helps Bobby with the occasional case and watches movies with Cas.
