Summary
Decently early into post construction skeptic is trying to figure things out. Since one of his big questions is if they can die he’s not super fearful of death. This combines with the discomfort coming from not letting anyone preen him yet and his long weeks of stress. Which then also combines with his curiosity in opportunist as the flock are developing closer bonds than just being flock simply because they came from the same place. This all culminates into an experiment of sorts. He doesn’t trust opportunist (he doesn’t trust anyone) but he wants to see what opportunist will do if he’s given such a task that comes with so much vulnerability. The answer ends up being “feel a lot of stuff about it” mostly.
Aka early post contract Skeptunist idea that I had last night and then wrote instead of my essay this morning.

Summary
People with hallucinations can benefit from the presence of a pet because the animal won’t react to something that isn’t real. Hunted is certainly not a pet, he’s one of them, but he is so in tune with its senses (and he’s skittish enough) that Paranoid can really relax and come back to reality far easier when Hunted is around. Hunted can see and hear better than even he can and he takes the flock’s safety serious enough to never ignore a potential threat. So he’s the one paranoid can seek, even just to hang out with, when his fears threaten to creep up on him.
When Paranoid calls, Hunted will come to help him feel safe and real again. Even if that means leaving in the middle of being preened. Good thing he doesn’t mind Paranoid’s shaky hands as much as Para does ;3
Aka) weeks ago I was thinking too much about these two and how similar they are and when my mind was kind and let me actually write today, it leaked into what started as projecting on one of my favorite birds (paranoid). But I’m delighted by the hurt/comfort this oneshot became <3 hopefully you enjoy it.
