[There’s nothing Yin Yu can do for him, he knows. What could he possibly do to calm Hua Cheng down after seeing his god left bound and gagged on Crimson Rain’s altar? E’ming is rattling at his side like the ascension bell, and Hua Cheng hasn’t removed his hands from his mouth to smack it, hasn’t even looked at it. His eye is locked on Xie Lian, entirely unmoving except for how he trembles.]
Or: Xie Lian gets (literally) tied up paying someone else's debt. It brings back memories for him and the ghost who came to collect. Luckily, the ghost brought back up in the form of an assistant who really deserves a raise.

“Yes, and I will answer, but please let me heal you first.”Xie Lian nods and hops down from the altar. He is a little alarmed that Hua Cheng said “not again,” like he knew this was done before. As far as he knows, only three souls ever made it out of that temple: Wu Ming, Bai Wuxiang, and himself. Two of the three were destroyed. Did one of them talk before that? Maybe. No matter, Hua Cheng doesn’t seem like he liked the concept of Xie Lian tied down like that, so it should be fine to go with him.]
Or: Xie Lian is left as a live sacrifice on Crimson Rain's altar. Honestly, just another day for him. For Hua Cheng however, it's an unacceptable transgression that must be rectified, and Xie Lian isn't going to decline a meal and a bed for the night if it really means that much to him. He doesn't expect to stay as long as he does, and certainly doesn't expect to fall in love.
