“Right. Sorry. Bad start,” Midoriya squeaked. Shouta could almost see the kid on the other end of the line, probably vibrating with enough nervous energy to power a small city. “Seriously, this whole t-thing was—uh, everybody’s okay. Physically! Everyone is fine. Uh—well. The property damage is... mostly covered by insurance? Probably?”
Shouta closed his eyes and leaned his head against the headboard with a dull, rhythmic thud. “Property damage. At one in the morning. On your break.”
“Just a bit?”
“What happened?” Shouta drew out the words, each syllable dripping with a bone-deep exhaustion.
“I—” A long pause followed, then a whisper so thin it barely carried through the speaker. “I got into a fight.”
“Where?”
The silence on the other end was deafening.
“Midoriya Izuku,” Shouta warned, using the kid's full name again, his voice dropping into that low, dangerous territory that usually made students scramble for cover.
“A bar,” Midoriya finally whispered.

This is a purely self-indulgent canon rewrite of basically what I wish would have happened. For the most part it will follow canon if Jake were a little less of a skxawng.
Jake Sully had never felt less in control of his life than when he arrived on Pandora. Everything that had led him to this point was just some terrible blur and he was so *tired* of horrible things happening. Somehow, by some boon from the universe, he finds light again in a community of blue cat aliens. The soft click of the knob as it released the latch that held the door snug in its frame gave way and with a soft creak, the man watched the mahogany wood move closer, as a familiar form eased into the room, his mop of messy moss hair and wide, viridescent eyes that betrayed his trepidation.
And well Shouta was both surprised and...not by Problem Child’s presence.
He should be concerned and...not by the look in the kid’s eyes.
And yet…
“What’s wrong, Problem Child?”
The words fell from his lips before he could ponder the why should or shouldn’t be or do anything.
Because that look…
“Can…” The boy hedged for a moment, awkwardly shuffling into the room, his fingers fumbling together as he seemed to consider his words.
‘You can trust me, kid.’
The man leaned a little closer and waited, watching the boy who furrowed his brows as he peered back towards his Sensei.

The thing was, Robert never shot him down. Sure, he was their boss, it made sense that he’d be at least professionally polite to them—but this was not a normal working environment. He was in charge of a team of partially-reformed supervillains. The dispatchers weren’t supposed to be nice to them! They weren’t supposed to… to tell them they did a good job, or give them pep talks, or… talk to them like a person, when everyone else treated them like an asset at best and a dubiously-defused bomb at worst.
