Steve sat in his car staring up at the neon sign of the Hideaway. This is crazy, he thought to himself. He had faced literal monsters from a hellish dimension, he should be able to handle going into a bar. It’s not even the first time he’s been here, so it shouldn’t get his heart racing this fast.
He glared down at his shaking hands as if to will them to still. Okay, so he hasn’t been this out in public since he’d started having to wear his new hearing aids. Fucking Russians, he shivered remembering the pounding that broke his brain enough that everything sounded like he was underwater. He takes a deep breath in and glances at himself in the rear-view mirror. “Get your shit together. You’re Steve Goddamn Harrington, for fuck’s sake,” he chastises himself in a twisted, self-deprecating pep talk.
