Damian never knew who his father was until he was forced to start taking punishment for Batman's actions. Why his mother's pit monster took such interest in it was beyond him. But when it turns out they share more than one intense caregiver an easy solution becomes clear and Damian leaps on the opportunity to get away from his beatings, flee to Gotham with his brother in tow and with one mission in his mind:

Turns out that a nine and nineteen year old both with murder tendencies are quite the recipe for chaos. Especially if their old lives keep popping up.

Gotham had its protectors. Birdlike creatures that people knew under the names of Batman, Nightwing, and Robin. Stephanie, even tho she was running across the same roofs as them, leaving clues to spoil her father's plans was decidedly not one of them. After all, she lacked the iconic wings that the bats had.

Summary

Summary
Jason had always known Gotham loved him. There were moments on the streets that were left blank. Forgotten, not meant for his mortal mind.
Since becoming Robin he knew the same feeling coming over him. But now, he no longer felt mortal, no longer just a vessel more an entity himself. He could've lost himself in it otherwise. The magic of Gotham, as well as the manor and its protector, saved him from losing himself.
That's why it was instrumental that Damian was also claimed. The baby had a parentage that would follow him for the rest of his life. In Jason’s mind, his baby brother would not survive if he didn’t get shadows to listen to him.
