    -- “Your birthday’s coming up,” Daniel says, sitting in front of Sean’s memorial grave.
    He talks in English with Sean; it feels… strange otherwise. Sean never was completely fluent in Spanish –ironically, since Daniel was originally the “no sabo” kid Dad had to beg to teach Spanish.
    “Ynez told me the other day, August fifteenth is sort of a holiday, apparently. Mother Mary’s ascent to heaven. Kinda cool, right? You were born the day Jesus’s mom died.” Daniel chuckles and looks out to the sea. The waves come and go, shimmering in the early noon sun that’s already beginning to resemble hellfire. He puts his head in his hands, trying not to let the emptiness crush him. “I wish you were here. I wish for it every day, Sean,” he sighs shakily. Then he drops his hands and gets up. “In another life, maybe.” --
