“I suppose it’s two things,” Penelope says, looking into the middle distance between her friends. “First, it’s a lot of work.”
“You’ve never been afraid of hard work, Pen,” Eloise offers.
“Thank you, but second, and probably more importantly, I don’t think I have the requisite experience to do it well.”
“Why? You’re a great writer,” Colin says from the corner where he’s been uncharacteristically quiet all night.
Penelope feels herself flame red. “It’s not my writing that’s the issue.”

Having seven aunts and uncles on her father’s side, each having found their true love through hardships and obstacles, Sunday family dinners were willed with stories of riding accidents, masquerade balls and interrupted weddings (to only name a few).
