Buck should’ve never made the playlist in the first place, he knows that. It was a stupid thing to do because with how often they give each other their phones, Eddie was bound to see it eventually and start asking questions.
But Buck was drunk when he made it - wallowing in self-pity about how the man he loves will never love him back. He’s just grateful his drunk self had the sense to not actually title the playlist ‘Eddie.’
“Who’s ‘E’?” Eddie asks from where he’s sitting on the couch, scrolling through Buck’s Spotify account because Buck stupidly told him to put on some music and forgot about the goddamned playlist.
Buck freezes in his movements as his eyes meet Eddie’s, opened wide.
“Um,” he says stupidly, gaping. “No one.”
Eddie narrows his eyes at him in suspicion and pouts slightly, the way he always does when he doesn’t believe something somebody is telling him.
“You’re a terrible liar, Buck,” he states. “Why didn’t you tell me you were dating someone?”
-
Or: Buck accidentally invents a fake girlfriend and Eddie handles it about as well as you'd expect.

“You wanna know what it means?” he asks, voice low, not quite steady. “The hat?”
Buck raises an eyebrow. “...There’s a meaning?”
Eddie nods once. “In Texas, yeah. There’s this saying. Old tradition, really.”
Buck squints, still clearly not following.
Eddie swallows. His throat’s dry. “If you put your cowboy hat on someone, it means you’re claiming them. Like—it’s a thing. A way of saying… you’re mine.”
Or: Buck finds Eddie’s old cowboy hat while unpacking boxes and puts it on without thinking. Eddie knows what it means.
(Eddie really knows what it means.)

Summary
This summer has had some subversive effects on his very definition of what it means to want.
He’s always been good at not wanting too much or too recklessly. But these days, it seems like he’s insatiable, wrought with hunger and pillaging to consume.
Maybe it's because this kind of wanting feels offensive—something he thought he’d snuffed out decades ago, made benign.
He’s always been so good at beating it down, down, down into submission whenever it reared its ugly head; he had a handle on it.
Now, it’s all gone to shit.
or; Buck and Eddie have sex, Eddie freaks out. Wash, rinse, repeat.

“Okay,” Kitty grins into the camera, waving at her family popping up on four different sections of the Zoom call. Clicks share screen. “Good afternoon, everyone. I’ve prepared an important presentation today. The agenda? All the reasons you should allow me, Katherine Song-Covey, to tour Asia over the summer with the potential love of my life, Moon Minho.”

Summary
If there’s one thing Katherine “Kitty to her friends” Song Covey knows, it is decidedly not Professor Lee’s month-long literature diatribes, but something with a more musical lilt to it. Something that sweeps into the concave of dented hearts and pushes it back into shape deftly. Something that doesn’t quite exhale like a weary sigh, but rather a creaking swing falling backwards into an assured embrace.
She just doesn’t know if its outward manifestation peers at her with longing, soulful orbs or forlorn, aching irises.

Summary
“Okay,” Josh says slowly. “Then why was it, that when I asked you what you liked about your boyfriend, you almost exclusively listed aspects of him that remind you of your best friend?”
Buck swallows.
“And,” Josh continues, like he isn't overturning everything Buck knew about himself ever. “When you consider how they're different… which do you prefer?”
Buck likes Tommy. He does! And he definitely isn't in love with Eddie. He's just... worried. Because Eddie keeps vanishing on Sundays, leaving Buck with the boyfriend he definitely likes as much as he should. Everything is fine.
Or, a post 8x01 coda.

“You need to come pick up your boyfriend.”
“Who?” Because, as far as Buck’s concerned, he’s been single ever since he broke up with Tommy a few weeks ago. He hears a struggle and a couple of shrieks before an all too familiar voice fills his ear.
“Bu-uck.” Eddie stutters into the phone, “Hi!”
Or Eddie and Karen's wine night results in Uber Buck, a vendetta against tables, and maybe a love confession, or two.

Summary
Buck nodded and slowed to a stop outside the house, shifting the car into park. He turned in his seat to flash Chris a smile. “We’ve arrived at your destination, good sir.” Chris giggled effusively, kicking his feet again.
“Thanks for the ride, Buck,” Eddie said, climbing out of the passenger seat. He appeared in the back a few moments later, pulling Chris’ crutches out first before unbuckling his son. “Say goodbye,” he told Chris.
Buck held his fist out for Chris to bump, getting caught off-guard by the way the seven-year-old wrapped both arms around the back of Buck's seat in a hug instead. There wasn't much Buck could do in the way of returning the embrace, try as he might, so he just had to settle for a pat on Chris' shoulder and an experimental ruffle of his golden curls.
Chris pulled away, million-watt smile on his face. “Thanks, Buck. It was nice meeting you.”
“You too, Chris,” Buck replied, a little breathless.
