“Don’t think I haven’t noticed, Vox,” Alastor slurred, pointing an unsteady finger at his glowing screen. For a moment Vox was terrified his cathode-ray skull had betrayed him—flashing a whole vaudeville reel of everything he wanted, every filthy little way he’d force Alastor to moan his name. And then Alastor leaned in and booped his nonexistent nose, fingertip hot against the cold glass. “Here I am, drinking quite heartily all on my own,” Alastor chuckled, “and you, ever the gentleman, keeping yourself sober on my account. How gallant of you.”

Summary
In 1955, a repressed Vincent Whittman has done some thinking and decided he'd like to try sex with a man, just to see how it is. While in San Fransisco, he runs into his old friend Alastor on a "hunting trip." The two agree that it could be mutually beneficial if Vincent's sexual experimentation is killed for sport immediately after, since dead men can't force people out of the closet.
Given Vincent's type in men, Alastor's type in murder, and a penchant the two men share for blood, their plan goes a little off the rails.
“What are you staring at?” Vincent asked.

Summary
The excitement of finally having Alastor under his clutches has faded, leaving nothing but dullness in its wake. Wrongness, one might say. Wrongness that permeated every feeling that crossed Vox's spiralling mind.
His blood on his hands did not satisfy him. Breaking down before him even less so. And storming out of the room, just to take out his frustrations on his own body, alone, with nothing but the glow of countless screens displaying one image to accompany him? It only served to break whatever shred of sanity Vox still had within him.
But perhaps it’s not too late, even now, to bring back what could have been right.
TLDR// Vox is pining for a lover. Alastor is pining for a friend. Both loathe it more than anything in the world.

”You’d call everything off right now, just for this?”
Just for this, he says. As though it’s trivial. As though it isn’t everything that Vox has dreamt of every night for the past several decades. As though the rejection doesn’t sting just as sharply every time he wakes up and reaches to the other side of a cold bed, hands searching for a lover that will never be there, and hears callous laughter echoing in the back of his skull.
Vox sucks in a shaky breath, closing his eyes. He tilts his face downward, unable to look at Alastor when he admits it. He almost can’t bring himself to, sure that Alastor is already certain of the answer.
”Yes,” he whispers.
”You can’t be serious,” Alastor says quietly.

“ALASTOR!”, Rosie’s voice rang out, sharp and cutting through the silence. She took a shaky breath, then continued in a higher pitch, feigned with pain and fury: “How could you … betray me like this?!”
Alastor was frozen in place. Not by fear, not by embarrassment, but by the sheer absurdity of the situation. What was this?! An accusation? A performance? He opened and closed his mouth in confusion as his brain desperately tried to process what the fuck was happening.---
Rosie decides the best way to get back at Alastor for breaking their contract is a dramatic, public breakup.

Human Au. Vincent travels to New Orleans for a report on the violent acts of the mysterious serial killer that seemed to have persisted since the 1930’s – he did not really care for the UFO or big foot rumours, but it made excellent tv.
If not only to make fun of others so readily willing to make fools of themselves on national tv.
After hours of unedited brain rot about how the serial killer is the zombie created by a disgraced disciple of Marie Laveau had left him in an art deco fancy-pants bar that really was not this Virginian man’s scene at the hotel he was staying at.
But the man nursing a glass of whiskey and hair the colour of shiny chestnuts in the quiet bars perks the visitor’s attention.
This chance meeting however sends the ambitious and respected reporter down a destructive spiral with lust, love, obsession, dark magic, and certainly more murder.Bookmarked by Azirashell_Ascendant

When the other Vees don't show up to stop Vox, Alastor is forced to, once again, save the day himself. He offers to make Vox a deal. One martini in exchange for saving the world.
Of course, every deal made in Hell has much more to it than what the words alone say. Their personal history with the cocktail goes back to the 1960's, a brand new sinner named Vincent getting the lay of Hell, a wide-smiling patron of the arts, and an utter refusal to ever define a relationship.

Summary
Having chosen to live as Vox's prisoner, Alastor decides to have some fun trading unnecessary creature comforts (superfluous things like food, water, not having to spend all day in a chair) for sexual favours. Of course, the more he gives the more Vox wants to take, regardless of what he has to trade to get it.
Basically Vox is obsessed with Alastor, and Alastor decides to use that knowledge to his advantage. A sexual relationship develops that threatens everything Vox has worked for - and everything Alastor believes about himself.

To deny his love for Alastor was to deny himself - which is exactly what Vincent would do the longer he spent around this man. He was not above outsourcing sex, hoping it would fill that gap, yet leave him emptier than before. None of them intrigued him quite like Alastor did, and none of them would live to disappoint him further. The adrenaline of finding another body under his, at his mercy, never quite compared to the touch only Alastor could give. And yet he always wanted more. It frustrated him
Was it wrong to want some praise from the man who inspired him this whole time?
