Fig presented the contract with a flourish. “Alright! Everybody sign the fancy contract!” She passed the paper and pencil down. “Fabian and Riz must convincingly fake-date for one month without revealing that it’s fake or bailing out of the challenge. Then, they will dramatically break up. If they can successfully do this, Adaine, Gorgug, Kristen and I will receive our punishments. If they don’t, they get their punishments.”
“I can’t believe I’m getting roped into this somehow,” Riz said as he put his signature in. “I don’t know how I got to this point in my life and I want to know how to stop it from ever happening again.”
After a series of escalating events, Fabian and Riz find themselves in a bet with the other Bad Kids to prove they can convince the school they're dating for a month. It's stupid, childish, and a lot of fun. Riz is freshly out of a sexuality crisis and does not need another one, thank you very much. And Fabian is fascinated by the whole thing, but he's one hundred percent, extremely aware that the fake relationship is just that: fake. Clearly, nothing can go wrong.

The door leading to his private office, the door which he had 100% locked when he’d left this morning, hung open, looking, for all the world, like someone had shouldered their way through it. Detective hunch warring with natural paranoia, Riz set his hand lightly on his arquebus, ready to draw at the first – or rather, second – sign of trouble. He crept towards the entryway, and peered around the doorframe.
“I want you to know,” Fabian said, “that I am not going to apologize.”

Fabian snatches a fry and shoves it in his mouth to busy himself, a weak effort to dispel the nervous energy that he’s feeling.
“Man, come on. You know I don’t know anything about love.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, The Ball. Of course you do. You’ve seen movies, haven’t you? Read books? Just help me make a plan on how to woo her, alright? It’ll be easy. Who wouldn’t fall for me after all?”
